North to South
From the harbor tip in Flensburg to the foot of the Zugspitze – the Race Across Germany North–South is the supreme discipline of the German ultracycling scene. Anyone who takes on this challenge embarks on a journey through the full diversity of Germany: from the rough Baltic Sea winds across the vast northern plains, into the foothills of the low mountain ranges such as the Harz, Hessian uplands, Rhön, and Franconia, until finally the Alps appear on the horizon. Every section tells its own story, every kilometer pushes body and mind to the limit. The finish in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, framed by mighty peaks, marks not only the end of the course but the completion of a truly unique journey across Germany.
The shorter variant starting in Eschwege – Bavaria Extrem – also leads through diverse landscapes, capturing the Bavarian experience in its entirety. Here, emotions and effort are condensed into nearly 550 kilometers: hop fields, rolling hills, and the vastness of Upper Bavaria, until the finish line at the edge of the Alps is reached. Crossing the line in Garmisch means more than a sporting achievement – it is the entry into a special community: the athletes who have conquered Germany from north to south. The finisher jersey therefore stands not just for a race, but for courage, passion, and the pride of having mastered one of the greatest challenges in German ultracycling.
