Categories

At Race Across Germany, different categories are available. Whether solo or in a team, supported or unsupported – each version represents a unique challenge and opens up a special adventure. Solo starters are ranked separately by gender (female/male) and in the age groups under 50, 50+, and 60+. The basis – just like in the Race Across America with the Racing Age – is the age reached within the respective calendar year. In the team categories, male, female, and mixed teams are distinguished. The winners of each category are honored at the finish as soon as the placements are determined. All finisher times and course records can be viewed live on the website in real time.

Supported

Solo Supported

In the Solo Supported category, one athlete is the focus, accompanied by a support crew that provides assistance around the clock. Supplies, navigation, equipment, and mental support are all handled by the crew – the athlete can fully concentrate on cycling. A category for record chasers and the Formula 1 of ultracycling.

2-Person Team Supported

In the 2-person team, riders take turns while the support crew organizes everything in the background. The relay principle applies: at all times, at least one rider must be on the course, although riding together is also allowed. This category combines peak performance with team spirit: two athletes pursuing the same goal share the workload and experience the adventure from two perspectives – always supported by their crew.

4-Person Team Supported

The 4-person team makes it possible to tackle the course with even shorter and more dynamic shifts, allowing for higher average speeds. With the support crew, an intense interplay of tactics, transitions, and team dynamics emerges. An adventure that perfectly combines athletic challenge and collective experience. Starting as a 3-person team is also possible in this category.

8-Person Team Supported

The category with the highest speed: eight riders share the course, optionally accompanied by a support crew. Here, speed, strategy, and team spirit are key. Tackling the route together as a large group is a special experience – athletic, emotional, and unforgettable. Starting as a 6-person team is also possible in the 8-person category. All 8-person teams are classified as mixed teams.

Unsupported

Solo Unsupported

In the Solo Unsupported category, the rider is completely self-reliant. Food, sleeping arrangements, navigation – everything must be organized independently. This category demands maximum self-sufficiency, mental strength, and strategic planning. Anyone who finishes here proves absolute independence and endurance.

2-Person Team Unsupported

Two riders, without external help, complete the full distance together: planning and carrying food, rest, and equipment as a team. This category thrives on trust and coordination – teamwork here means mastering the adventure as a duet and carrying each other through the toughest moments. If one rider drops out, the result still counts – there is no reclassification to solo.

4-Person Team Unsupported

The 4-person unsupported team is a special mix of team tactics and self-reliance. Without outside assistance, the riders organize everything themselves, take turns, and experience the entire course as an intense group effort. This category combines a spirit of adventure with strong camaraderie. All team members complete the full distance together. If one rider drops out, the result still counts – there is no reclassification into another category. Starting as a 3-person team is also possible in this category.

Velomobile

In the Velomobile category, solo riders compete with recumbent bikes or fully faired recumbents (velomobiles) without support. The special design of the vehicles allows for high speeds but also requires specific strategies and endurance – climbs must still be conquered. This class is an exciting alternative for technology enthusiasts and speed lovers who own such a vehicle.
